U.S. Mission Nigeria 2022 Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA) for Nigerian (USA)

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Mission Nigeria invites applications from qualified Nigerians wishing to teach Hausa or Yoruba languages and cultures to American students in U.S. universities and colleges.

The FLTA program is designed to offer young foreign teachers an opportunity to teach Yoruba language and culture to American students in universities and colleges. The program also gives an opportunity for participants to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States by engaging in non-degree studies while strengthening the instruction of foreign languages at U.S. colleges and universities. Becoming a participant carries with it a great responsibility. Along with their studies, participants teach language courses, supervise language labs and lead language table discussions. They may also act as resource persons in conversation groups, cultural representatives, attendants in language laboratories, coordinators of extra-curricular activities, guest speakers in civilization courses, head of language clubs, houses, tables and much more.

Aim and Benefits of Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA)

The grant covers the grantee’s round trip airfare to the U.S., a settling-in allowance, monthly stipend, housing allowance, health insurance, and tuition scholarship for their coursework. Provisions will be made for participants to attend a Fulbright FLTA Summer Orientation in the United States prior to beginning their program. During the FLTA program, fellows are also invited to participate in special Fulbright enrichment seminar and conference for professional development and networking opportunity.

Requirements for Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA) Qualification

To be qualified for this program:

  • Applicants must be citizens or nationals of Nigeria, or permanent residents holding a valid passport issued by the government of Nigeria. He or she must be residing in the country at the time of application
  • Applicants must be graduates who have received their bachelor degrees in English language, Education, Linguistics, Yoruba, Hausa and Languages
  • Applicants must be teachers of English Language or Yoruba or Hausa in Nigerian secondary schools, colleges or universities. Proven years of teaching experience are mandatory
  • Applicants must have the endorsement of their employer
  • Applicants must have an outstanding academic record and high level of English proficiency as demonstrated by a minimum score of 90 in the Internet Based TOEFL test.
  • Applicants must have at least a credit in Yoruba language in WAEC/NECO
  • Applicants must have an in-depth knowledge of Yoruba or Hausa culture and current events in Nigeria. They must have sincere interest in teaching Hausa or Yoruba language and culture to students in the U.S.

    University of Sheffield UK 2022 Gaza-Palestine Taught Postgraduate Scholarship

Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships for Developing Commonwealth Countries

Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are for candidates from least developed and lower middle income Commonwealth countries, for part-time Master’s study by distance learning on selected courses offered by UK universities. A Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship covers tuition fees and study grants where required.

Eligibility:

To apply for the scholarship, you must:

• Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person

• Be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country

• Hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard. A lower qualification and sufficient relevant experience may be considered in certain cases

• Be unable to afford to study the programme without this scholarship

Application instructions:

You must apply to study an eligible Master’s course at a UK university that is participating in the Distance Learning scheme. You must also secure admission to your course in addition to applying for a Distance Learning Scholarship. You must check with your chosen university for their specific advice on when to apply, admission requirements, and rules for applying.

To apply for the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship, you must make your application using the CSC’s Electronic Application System (EAS), in addition to any other application that you are required to complete by your chosen university. All applications must be submitted by 18:00 (GMT) on 15 March 2022 at the latest. Supporting documents must be submitted by 17:00 (GMT) on 5 April 2022.

Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program

The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) is open to women and men from developing countries with relevant professional experience and a history of supporting their countries’ development efforts who are applying to a master degree program in a development-related topic.  JJWBGSP offers scholarships for participating programs at universities in U.S., Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan.

A JJWBGSP scholarship provides tuition, a monthly living stipend, round-trip airfare, health insurance, and travel allowance.

Please note all JJ/WBGSP scholarships cover the duration of the graduate program or two years, whichever is less.

Eligibility:

The applicant must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Be a national of a World Bank member country on this list;

• Not hold dual citizenship of any developed country;

• Be in good health;

• Hold a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree earned at least 3 years prior to the Application Deadline date;

• Have 3 years or more of recent development-related work experience after earning a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree;

• Be employed in development-related work in a paid full- time position at the time of submitting the scholarship application.     The Generation Change Fellows Program (GCFP) is dedicated to strengthening the capacity of civically engaged youth leaders as they emerge as peacebuilders in their communities. By delivering training in effective leadership, conflict management, and prejudice awareness and reduction; providing online courses and other resources; and fostering a global learning community, the two year Fellowship gives participants the additional skills, knowledge, support, and resources needed to increase their resilience as peacebuilders and civic leaders, manage conflict at a local level, and increase the effectiveness of their peacebuilding programs.
