Plotagon Versions
There are two versions of Plotagon;
- Plotagon Story
This is the mobile version of Plotagon. It is available for android and apple devices. It has limited features.
- Plotagon Studio
This is the desktop version with access to a wider range of features. It is available for windows and Mac devices.
Which version is best for me?
Plotagon Story is ideal for individual storytellers to express themselves with friends or on social media. If you wish to make animated films for your business or advertising-based YouTube channel, then Plotagon Studio may be the right choice for you.

Commercial rights and monetization – can I use Plotagon Story?
If you plan on creating videos for business or commercial purposes we recommend that you use Plotagon Studio instead. Plotagon Studio includes advanced content and features as well as commercial rights to the movies you make. How do I buy additional characters and scenes?
On iPhone and iPad, you buy characters and scenes as In-App Purchases using your Apple ID. On Android, you use your Google Play Store account
If I buy characters and scenes on one device, can I use them on other devices?
Yes, you can! Characters and scenes are tied to your Plotagon account, no matter where you bought them. If you are on a new device, log into your account and go to the Store tab and click Purchases and then Restore Purchases.
I forgot my password, how do I get a new one?
If you can’t remember the password for your account you can get a new one here. Please note that you need an email address connected to your account. If you don’t receive the email with your new password, check your spam filter!
How do I publish the videos I’ve made with Plotagon?
You can save an MP4 file to your device’s hard drive or camera roll. From there, you can share them with friends, with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or other social media or video-sharing services.
Can I make animated videos about anything?
Plotagon is just a tool, so we cannot control what a creator wants to make videos about. However, we do hope that you are decent people who won’t make videos with sexually explicit, profane or obscene language, or videos with hateful and racist content. You also cannot legally steal dialogue from famous movies, TV shows, or any other copyrighted content. Please see our Terms of Use to learn more about your rights and responsibilities when using Plotagon.
Who owns what I make with Plotagon?
You, of course, own the rights to the stories that you write. However, we own the characters, environments, animations, music, sounds, etc that are part of Plotagon. Please see our Terms of Use for the full terms.
Do I have to be online when using Plotagon?
You need to be online to log in to the app and to purchase content. Thumbnails of scenes might be black if you are not online, and if you have not downloaded scenes or clothes they will not be available. But there is no need to be online while you are creating.
Why can’t I open my story on another device?
Your script and your custom characters are saved locally on your device’s hard drive, which means that you have to continue working on the same device.

How can I get started with Plotagon Studio?

How long can my Plotagon movies be?
Try to keep each Plot (Plotagon movie) to under 5 minutes if possible. That will keep your script down to a length that is easy to edit and allow your computer to export the MP4 movie files quickly. You can always edit multiple plots into a longer movie using a separate movie editing application.
Can I import my own images?
Plotagon Studio offers several scenes (like “Presentation”) where you can import your own JPG or PNG image as a background, and numerous scenes (like “Conference room 2”) where you can import an image onto a location within the scene. Can I import my own background music?
Yes. Click on either the music or sound effect icons in the Plot screen, and then select “Import music”. By using this feature, you agree that you have the necessary rights and permissions to use any music or sound effects that you import into your Plotagon movies.

Which video export resolution is best for my movies?
That depends on how you intend to use your videos. 720p usually is sufficient for drafts, 1080p is best for online video, and 4K is ideal for the latest television and display screens. Note that the higher the resolution, the larger the resulting file, and the longer it will take your computer to render the video.
How can I include subtitles in my Plotagon movies?
Plotagon lets you either burn in your script as subtitles or save Closed Captions in an external SRT file for accessibility. Learn more in this tutorial.
How can I replace the computer voices with human voices?
You can either record your own voice for dialogue or import audio files from voiceover talent, and Plotagon Studio will automatically sync the characters’ lips to the sound of the human voice, in any language. Learn more in this tutorial.
Can two users work on the same Plotagon script?
Each Plotagon script (and character) is saved locally on the user’s hard drive, offering maximum security and performance. However, thanks to the “Import Plot”/”Export Plot” and “Import Voice” functions you can collaborate with colleagues to create your videos together. Simply click on “Export Plot” to save a .plot file and send it to a colleague, who can use the “Import Plot” function and make changes.
How can I get more than two characters in a single shot?
You may use your Plotagon movies in both private platforms (like Learning Management Systems) and public digital distribution platforms (like websites and YouTube), but not for broadcast television networks. Can I use my Plotagon movies to make money on my YouTube channel?
Each Plotagon Studio license includes commercial rights, so you can monetize them on YouTube and other digital distribution platforms.
What is Plotagon Story, and how is it different from Plotagon Studio?
Plotagon Story is our mobile version of Plotagon. It is free to download on mobile devices. Plotagon Story comes with limited scenes and characters (with more content available for in-app download and purchase). It is perfect for making personal videos for fun. However, each Plotagon Story movie has lower resolution, a watermark, and does not include commercial rights and professional features.
Is there a free trial available?
Yes. When you create your account you can begin using it free for up to 7 days.
How do I add or manage accounts for my colleagues and team members?
Click on Settings (the gear icon) and then Manage Billing. That will take you to our admin website, where you can invite team members, assign usage rights, and manage their passwords.
Where can I get additional digital voices?
Plotagon offers dozens of lifelike digital voices in a variety of accents and languages. Visit the Plotagon Studio voice store to see the full selection, or hear samples on our website.
How can I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your Plotagon Studio subscription at any time. All cancellations will take effect at the end of the current billing cycle. To cancel your account, login at https://admin.plotagoneducation.com/login. There, click Manage Billing, then your plan (Monthly or Annual), and Cancel Subscription.
If you have a free trial and decide not to continue, simply don’t enter a credit card, and your subscription will cancel automatically at the end of the trial period.
Can I continue to use the movies after my subscription expires?
Yes, you may continue to use the MP4 video files after your subscription expires, but you will be unable to use the Plotagon application to edit or update your movies unless you purchase a new subscription.
Plotagon offers classroom pricing to qualifying nonprofit or public educational institutions. Please contact us and describe your situation, including your school or university name, the length of the term, and the approximate number of students, and we will see what offers we have available for you. Can I use Plotagon Studio when I am offline, or does my computer need to be connected to the Internet?
You will need to have Internet access in order to download the Plotagon Studio application and updates, and you will need to be online in order to log into the application or to make changes to your account. Once you have logged in, though, you can use the application offline (on a plane or train, for example) for several weeks. If you are planning on travelling and want to use Plotagon while you do not have Internet access, then be sure to log in to the application before you leave. (You can still quit the application, but don’t log out.)
